Chapter 49 - This Ain't Hide And Seek

The Bon Jovi jet landed in Salt Lake City to drop the boys off for camp.  As they were in the car with their dad, Jacob asked, "Are we here for the whole 6 weeks dad?"

"Yeah, your mom and I thought it would do you both some good, since I'll be gone in a couple of weeks and she's pretty busy with her charity work.  Jesse is supposed to join you at some point, he wants to do some hunting and fishing."

Romeo heard that and with the excitement of a child said, "Jesse is coming?  That's awesome dad."

"He's going to volunteer as a counselor like he did last year."

"Cool, maybe he can stay in our cabin with us."  Jake adds, "That would be cool to have my college football brother with me."  Jake says it with such pride, Jon cannot help but share in that feeling.

"Make sure you do what he says. And remember, for a couple weeks, I'll be with Beth and the twins.  So, I'll just be down in California and your mom will be back in Jersey - so if you need us, call me first.  I can get to you quicker."

"We know dad, mom and Pete already told us."  Jake tells him with a slight eye roll.  "How much longer will we need Pete dad, we're old enough to not need a nanny anymore."

Jon laughs, as he's sure that Pete can get on their young man nerves, but he has to be honest, "Pete will be with us until Romy goes to college."

"COLLEGE?"  Romeo blurts, "Dad, that's too long."

"It is what it is, son.  And when she's done with you two, I hope that she'll be there for Spencer and Brianna."

"Are you excited to see them?" Jake asks, knowing that his dad misses them because they miss them too.  They don't know them at all, but they are connected because they are siblings.  "I'd like to see them, and Beth."

Jon tousles the young mans hair and adds, "Maybe we'll come see you at camp."

A little more conversation and the three Bongiovi's arrived at camp.  The boys were excited and were even more excited when they seen a few friends from school.  Many PolyPrep kids attend this camp since it's exclusive and private but it's the best way for the privileged to spend their long summer vacations.  They hugged and kissed their dad and off they went.  Jon stood there and watched as they ran away, as a counselor walked up to him.  They exchanged a few words and Jon was back in the car, on his way back to the Bon Jovi jet - enroute to Napa Valley.

When he arrived, he rented a Cadillac and started the long drive up to Napa.  He had no plan, he had no idea what he would see, if she would even want him there - but he had to  go.  He had to go and see his new babies and the love of his life.  If he and Beth didn't get to spend any quality time with each other, he has absolved himself to being just happy to see Spencer and Brianna.  He wanted to hold them close, change diapers, give them baths and just be there for Beth if she needed or wanted help.  He remembers all of the close times that he spent with McKenna and wants to share those moments with Brianna and Spencer.

When he arrives at the vineyard, he sees that the lights are on in the house, as he makes his way back through the vineyard.  It's early evening in Napa and the place is pretty quiet.  He's nervous,, he's unsure but he doesn't care.  He needs to see them and he knows that his babies need to see him.

Parking the car next to hers, he puts it in park and takes a deep breath.  He has no idea if she's in the house, out and about in the vineyard or up in the hotel.  Leaving his things in the car,, he gets out and walks up to the back door and rings the bell.  The wait feels like a lifetime to him, his heart is in his throat and his palms are sweaty.

Nothing.

He rings the bell again and hears footsteps, "Who is it?" he hears from the other side of the door.

"It's me."

Nothing.

"Beth, open the door."  Jon tries the door knob, but it's locked.

Nothing.

He rings the bell, knocks on the door and says a little louder, "Come on Beth, open the door."

Quietly he hears her say, "What are you doing here?  You should have called."

"You knew I was coming.  Open the door." he's getting pissed.  Why isn't she opening the door and welcoming him with open arms?

"Go check in, I have the suite set for you.  I'll come over later." she tells him, and he hears that there is no affect in her voice.  "Gloria knows that you were coming."

"Beth, open the door."

"Jon, go to the hotel.  I'll be there later."

He's beyond frustrated and his blood is starting to boil.  With a deep breath, he says, "Open this fucking door or I'm going to bust it in."  as he bangs on it with his hands.

"GO TO THE HOTEL!" she screams at him.  "Please, just go to the hotel."

"What is going on, Beth?  Please open the door, you're scaring me!" he lightens his tone and just wants her to open the door.
